On Sunday 25 January Cassegrain Wines and Regional Oyster Farmers, from the Hastings River and Camden Haven catchments, held the fourth Oysters in the Vines Day at Cassegrain Winery.
Speaking from the event local oyster grower Mark Bulley said it was the one of the best turnouts in the three year history of the event, despite some light drizzle and overcast skies.
Around 1,500 locals and visitors to the region joined host John Cassegrain, Cassegrain Wines and local oyster farmers for a fun day.
Everyone could sample succulent award winning Sydney Rock Oysters straight from the local oyster farms. It was a chance to try some of Australias finest oysters and chat to local growers about the art of oyster farming.
Leading local restaurants and chefs, including Synergy Restaurant (Mercure Centro Hotel), Brigid Loane (Silver Spoon Catering), Ca Marche Restaurant and Bay St Brasserie @ Port Macquarie Panthers prepared a variety of recipes to enhance the mouth watering oysters that were available.
John Cassegrain selected a fine range of wines to showcase on the day and commented on the success of The Oyster & Wine Experience.
Participants had the unique opportunity to learn more about the Sydney Rock Oyster and matching wines in the tasting and education area. They tasted a half dozen oysters and 5 wine matches whilst learning how to shuck an oyster and how the locals grow and harvest oysters.
We also shared the secrets of matching oysters and wine. Everyone had a great time and we will definitely hold it again next year. It was a huge success, he concluded.
There was something for everyone including the children who were entertained by Crocodile Encounters, an exciting interactive presentation with live crocodiles, snakes, lizards and other native wildlife.
Many enjoyed oysters a great selection of seafood, a traditional Aussie BBQ and fine Cassegrain wine whilst relaxing to local band Dinner with Milton.
