CASSEGRAIN WINES CELEBRATES THEIR 10TH ANNUAL OYSTERS IN THE VINES FESTIVAL. This year they will celebrate the popular festival with a new date and a culinary line-up guaranteed to please the most enthusiastic Oyster aficionado.
The festival will take place at the Cassegrain Wines vineyard from 9am until 4pm on Sunday 25th October and will once again combine with the Artist Markets for a mega artist market and oyster extravaganza.
Set among vineyards, blooming roses and stunning manicured gardens, this event celebrates the flavour sensation of locally sourced Rock Oysters, which are served up alongside a range of delicious Cassegrain wines and boutique beers.
Oyster lovers can indulge as they taste their way through a range of oysters supplied by local supplier Armstrong Oysters, as well as other regional Rock Oyster suppliers. For those who prefer their oysters dressed, a variety of exotic toppings will be available, including the traditional Kilpatrick and Mornay.
There will also be plenty of other locally based food stalls there on the day to complement the oysters.
Throughout the day, oyster experts will be demonstrating how to shuck an oyster and provide a bit of background on our local oyster industry.
This event will mark a special milestone for the Oysters in the Vines festival, as it celebrates its tenth anniversary.
Managing Director of Cassegrain Wines, John Cassegrain, said that the Oysters in the Vines festival was originally developed to showcase the local oyster industry in the Hastings region and highlight the various differences between where oysters are sourced. Ten festivals later, and the event continues to attract record crowds.
“The oyster industry is important to the Hastings region and when we first started, the trend of buying local and knowing where your produce comes from had only just started,” said Cassegrain.
“Thankfully, it’s now a major movement around the country, along with local markets highlighting local produce and all locally produced wares.”
All of the oysters served at the festival are sourced from farms within our local region, from Camden Haven through to the Nambucca. The Rock Oyster is indigenous to virtually the whole East Coast of New South Wales and is becoming renowned as a rare World Best Oyster.
“Our region is right in the middle of the Rock Oyster’s natural growing area,” says Cassegrain. “Not only is our climate perfect for the oyster, but we are also blessed with clean waterways.
“We are at a particularly exciting point, as the gastronomic world is really only just beginning to appreciate the Rock Oyster, as an increasing amount of the oysters are being exported overseas as demand for this local delicacy grows.”
Oyster and Wine Match Masterclasses
Learn to pair your oysters with the perfect wine or sparkling combination at our Oyster and Wine Match Masterclasses. Each oyster will be prepared in a different style and paired alongside a range of Cassegrain wines that have been specially selected to match each dressing.
The Masterclasses will take place at 11am and 2pm and will cost $20 per person to attend.
Artist Market in the Vines
Once again the Oysters in the Vine festival will combine with the ever-popular Artist Market. This is the largest Artist Market for the year and a perfect opportunity to start getting organised for Christmas. This market promises to be abundant, with an eclectic mix of wares created by regional artists and artisans, including market favourites; Arthouse Industries, Yvonne Keily, Colleen Wright and Maureen Hales.
Popular market food stalls and local producers will also be there to serve up some delicious treats to complement the oysters, including: Bellingen Smokehouse, MJ’s Streetfood, The Veggie Kitchen, and Hops and Tails craft beer.
Entertainment for all the family to enjoy
There will be something for all of the family, with kids’ entertainment and live music. The kids will be kept busy with an all-day “play pass”, which includes full day access to the jumping castle, face painting and much more.
Festival goers will be kept entertained by the great line up on the stage, including Lennox Lust, Musicali and Matt and Liz Brooker.
Entry to the Oysters in the Vines event is just $5, and the Sunrise Rotary Club will be onsite to direct car parking. All festival guests can enjoy a 10% discount on any bottle of Cassegrain Wine purchased on the day at the Cellar Door or throughout the festival.
Guests are encouraged to bring picnic rugs and chairs and are also recommended to arrive early if they want to secure a shady spot that’s close to all of the festival action.
As there is food, wine and other beverages provided as part of the festival, guests are asked to not BYO food and alcohol.
