Some of us spend our days with our heads in the clouds. This is certainly true of Ollie Brooke of Cloud Concepts.
This Irish born techno wiz has long held a passion for programing and software, and has built up a successful business showing others how they can embrace cloud computing to improve efficiency and profitability.
Ollie has been into computers since he was 12 years old, started a software development degree in Ireland and went on to teach himself how to program software both professionally and for fun.
For Ollie, computers are an exciting extension of the mind. “Much in the same way as physical tools extend the physical capability of the average human (when was the last time you tried to push a nail into a piece of wood with your bare hands?) computers extend the intellectual capacity.”
Cloud computing is really the next wave of business computing software. It can automate marketing and customer relationship management, project and task management, field service work management and more.
“There are a whole raft of new applications that can run seamlessly between the office and the smartphone, which delivers a significantly valuable edge for businesses.”
Ollie works at the forefront of technological development and says it can be challenging to keep up with the dizzying array of solutions that exist to streamline business processes.
He says he’s naturally inquisitive and has an “almost unhealthy interest” in technology and what’s coming next. A firm believer in the concept of a “beginner’s mind”, Ollie approaches every day and every challenge as an opportunity to learn more.
“I am constantly doing online courses, reading and listening to new material, building and testing prototypes and generally just surrounding myself with as much information and insight as I can.”
Ollie uses cloud technology and clever systems in his own business, enabling him to spend a lot of time with his young daughters. And when he has some spare time, he produces electronic music, runs a music podcast PureHouseMusic.net and still DJs for the odd party or gig.
Audible is his secret weapon, enabling him to listen to inspiring audio books, like Michael Gerber’s The E-Myth Revisited, by making incredibly effective use of “drive time” between meetings or picking his kids up from school.
“It’s a really easy way to appreciate the true power of cloud computing and mobile technology and fundamentally shift the way you do business.”
The best bits of Ollie’s day are seeing clients have an “ah-ha” moment when they realise there’s a simple solution, or being able to help people out of a bind.
Ollie is keen to share his knowledge with others via some upcoming talks for the NSW Business Chamber and will be running a workshop at the upcoming Digital Marketing Day Out.
“We’re really at the beginning of this revolution, and I am very excited to be able to not only witness the transformation in our world, but also be a small part of the force that pushes this change forward.”
