Specialising in Family and Newborn Photography, local photographer Natalie O’Donnell shares with Focus her love of photography and leaving family with lasting memories they can cherish for years to come…

Hi Natalie, what do you feel is your point of difference when it comes to photography?

I would say my attention to detail when adding elements & layering textures to my set ups. Ensuring lighting is soft & flattering is another detail I’m always paying attention to. But mostly my editing is what sets me apart from most – I spend countless hours perfecting my skills. I am a stickler for editing skin to look as natural as possible, retaining all the detail & texture . There is nothing worse than an image with noticeably smoothed plastic looking skin!

One thing that can be noted in your photos is your use of layering textures, what inspires you when it comes to developing prop ideas?

Textures photograph so beautifully, I love layering my props to add visual appeal.

I try to stick to one colour tone or complementing tones within my layers. I am regularly inspired by the colours that occur naturally in our beautiful surroundings & also any requests my clients may have.

What type of photography are you currently focusing most on?

Pretty much anything Family related, Maternity, Newborns, Children , Families – though my newborn work is my most requested.

What has been your most memorable shoot of the last two years?

Just 1?! Haha, I would have to say my very first Birth Story session .. Being present in that room and witnessing the love & connection between 2 people waiting for their child to arrive is beyond words – capturing such a raw & emotional event is so rewarding – I am literally buzzing for days after photographing a birth!

Do you have any specials running at the moment?

Yes!!! For all the Focus readers – mention this article to receive $50 off your next session *Offer expries end of April 2018.
Thanks Natalie.
