Justine Bridle has always had a passion for creating, and started the design and manufacture of her own clothing line, Mojo Beach & Dance. Priding her limited edition designs on being Australian and locally handmade.
Why did you decide to design and manufacture clothing for your own label, Mojo Beach & Dance?
After our family’s sea change and subsequent surprise fourth child, Molly Johannah (MOJO) in 2007, I decided that it was time to finally entertain my true passion for the design and manufacture of my very own clothing line: so Mojo Beach & Dance was born.
I pride myself on being Australian and locally handmade, creating limited edition garments. You won’t see my designs walking past you in the street.
I appreciate that all women are built uniquely, so custom sizing is also something I love to do. Just because that gorgeous piece on the rack doesn’t fit your shape or height, it doesn’t mean you cannot have it.
What gives you inspiration for your designs?
I focus my designs around the lifestyle and beach environment that my family and I live in. Comfort and style is always at the forefront of my designs. I try to incorporate current trends, while keeping my garments simple and timeless. My designs won’t go out of fashion in a hurry.
Mojo garments are the perfect blank canvas to add your own original flair, keeping your style unique.
What do you enjoy most about designing comfortable beach and dance wear?
I love designing new pieces for my beachwear range. I enjoy road testing them on my friends and family and listening to feedback from my customers.
I have a passion for creating, and Mojo is the perfect outlet to get those creative juices flowing.
Mojo Beach & Dance also offers the service of custom-made dance costumes for solo performances and groups. I love seeing the smile on the face of the little girl who has her very own unique costume for her solo performance.
Mojo is known for using bright, colourful materials and soft fabrics. How does this reflect on your passion for clothing?
My designs are all about comfort – comfort that doesn’t compromise style. A fresh summer look is the key, so I avoid the use of elastic or zips. I love designs that cover up the bits that we don’t like to share, such as the baby bonus tummy and hips! I really enjoy creating pieces that make real women of all shapes and sizes feel good about themselves.
Why the name ‘Mojo’ Beach and Dance?
Actually, I credit the name to my husband Jason. We were brainstorming a name for my business and we were trying to incorporate the kids’ names, but with 4 children, that idea was becoming a problem. He suggested Mojo (Molly Johannah), as she was the little surprise package who helped me realise what I really wanted to do.
What do you enjoy about being a stall holder at the Foreshore Market in Port Macquarie?
The Foreshore Market is a fabulous market for me to showcase my designs. The market has evolved into a fantastic day, with so many artists showing their phenomenal talents. The atmosphere is complemented by cool music and great food. I would like to thank the organisers Necia and Sonia from the Foreshore Market Port Macquarie for their continued support of Mojo Beach & Dance. This has be an integral part of Mojo’s success to date.
Thank you Justine.
