You may have noticed a new name around town … Flame on the Water! Flame is the new venture opened by Jo and Ross Gwatkin.

Tell us about the new establishment, Flame on the Water.

Flame is the new restaurant venture of Ross and Jo Gwatkin. It is situated at the site of their old restaurant and still retains all the friendly staff from their former restaurant. The new menu still has a lot of steak, as well as their tender pork ribs, but now has more variety for the non steak enthusiasts! The Gwatkins aim to retain a warm, welcoming family friendly restaurant that will be a delight to take the family to time and time again.

What is your inspiration for the new menu?
The inspiration for the new menu was taken from watching my father working in the kitchen when I was a child. I have taken what I learnt and saw when I was younger and given it my own twist. It’s simple food with lots of flavour.

Is there a favourite dish you would recommend?
Everyone has their favourites. For owners Jo and Ross, their favourites are the Thai chilli prawns and the 300 g Viking steak. Manager Meaghan loves the red curry fish cakes, while my favourite is our home made pecan pie.

What is unique about Flame on the Water?
We have the best view in Port! But we are also completely family friendly.

What will the locals love about Flame?
Our variety. While we have a good range of steaks, we also provide lots of other non steak options as well. We cater for the very young to the young at heart and care about everyone we serve.

What do you enjoy most about running a restaurant in beautiful Port Macquarie?
The magic view we get to look at while we’re working! More seriously, we love working with local suppliers and getting to meet the families of Port Macquarie.

Do you cater for functions and special events?
Yes, we do! We can take bookings for groups or if you want to hold a function at Flame, our Chef, Casey, will sit down with you to work out a special menu that will suit your budget and needs.

Thanks guys.

We came for dinner on Monday night 4/7/11, and unfortunately I have to say it was the worst meal I have had in a very long time. Our table all order either steak and ribs or just ribs. Every steak, bar one, was under cooked to the point that my husbands was raw inside. My steak which was the one not undercooked was so tough that it was inedible. My daughters we sent back saying it was undercooked and they kindly said they would bring out a new meal, which they did, but the steak was more undercooked than the first.

The two meals which were not eaten were not charged for but I feal that the $128 cost was extremely high for the quality of the food that we received.

Your comments etc would be much appreciated

    Regards
